Peggy and Handmade Jewelry Inspiration
I never would have guessed that I would have been making and designing jewelry for over 12 years now. It's a stark contrast to my beginnings as a Chemical Engineering major at UC Berkeley, the daughter of immigrant parents who hoped I would have a "real job" as a doctor, lawyer or scientist someday. Unfortunately for them, I loved wandering Telegraph Avenue more than the stacks, checking out all the handmade wares. The artisans I loved on Telegraph inspired me to create my own handmade jewelry (birthstone earrings for family and friends) and the seeds for Peggy Li Creations was born.
Jewelry seen on TV
I've been so lucky to work with amazing stylists and people who have believed in my jewelry designs. It all began with Buffy, the Vampire Slayer and now my jewelry designs and handmade jewelry has been seen on TV shows like The Vampire Diaries, Elementary, Hart of Dixie, and in magazines such as Oprah Magazine and Lucky.
Why Peggy Li Jewelry
I love making simple, sophisticated jewelry with feminine touches, making designs that help women feel
beautiful. When women feel beautiful, they feel powerful and have more confidence.
Among other things, I'd love to be a screenwriter, entomologist and pastry chef when I grow up. I love watching movies, trying new foods, playing golf (handicap 21.6), writing for my jewelry design blog, learning new handmade jewelry making techniques and helping other small business owners.
About the Materials
Peggy's jewelry designs and handmade jewelry are deceptively simple, featuring artisan craftsmanship mixed with contemporary approaches to contrast, color, texture and composition. She uses beads, gemstones, vintage findings, charms and chain in her work. Whenever possible, Peggy works with US-based manufacturers and sources that believe in fair wages and green eco-friendly practices. Her metals are 14k gold-filled, gold plated silver, sterling silver, fine silver, Bali silver and real karat gold. Read more about 14k gold-filled components and gold plate vermeil and vermeil styles on her blog FAQ: What is the difference between 14k gold-filled and gold vermeil?
At her workbench, Peggy recycles her metal scraps and uses boxes and packaging materials that use recycled materials. She also keeps her packaging to a minimum to avoid unnecessary waste.
